when you're throwing together a quick script to block mt-comment spammers and your script returns a lot more IP addresses than you were expecting, what should you do?

well, i'll tell you what NOT to do. DON'T ignore it and throw all of those IPs into the top of your firewall script and explicitly deny them, because one of them was probably your own. and then your firewall script will terminate after only setting a default drop policy on all interfaces, and then explicitly denying some random IP addresses.
